Zongzhao Garden is located at the intersection of Yeting Road and Anyi Road in the center of Baoying County, Yangzhou, Jiangsu. It was originally the private garden of Qiao Lai, a Jinshi (advanced scholar) during the Kangxi period of the Qing Dynasty, and is renowned for its lotus scenery. Before the Ming Dynasty, this area was a vast pond, connected to the Songjing River in the south and Songgang in the north. In the mid-Ming Dynasty, the prominent Hu family of Baoying built a villa named Hua Chuan Bie Ye here, which was abandoned by the end of the Ming Dynasty. In 1688, during the 27th year of Kangxi’s reign, Qiao Lai constructed Zongzhao Garden on the site of the former villa.

The garden was designed by accumulating soil to form hills and planting trees to create forests, embodying the principle of seeing the vast in the small, and offering a great deal of natural charm. It features numerous pavilions, towers, and scenic spots, which have attracted many scholars and celebrities to compose poetry and prose, praising the tranquil and elegant waterside garden.

The garden walls have been removed, and it now serves as a public park, maintaining its overall Qing Dynasty style. However, due to its proximity to commercial areas, the commercial atmosphere within the garden is quite strong. It is open all day from January 1st to December 31st.
