When it comes to the renowned figures of European ‘great lovers’, in addition to Don Juan, one must mention Giacomo Casanova. This historically real Italian playboy, adventurer, and writer… is remembered for his legendary life and has been a popular subject for stage and screen adaptations. The original Italian musical ‘Casanova – The Lover of Venice’ is adapted from the best-selling work ‘Giacomo Casanova – The Song of Rotten Wood’ by the famous author Matteo Strukul.
This historical novel was published in 2018 and has been translated into 13 languages, selling well in various countries. As a tribute to celebrate the 1600th anniversary of the romantic city of Venice, this novel-inspired musical had 33 preview performances in early 2022 and received an enthusiastic response upon its debut. In December of the same year, it officially premiered in Venice and then toured various parts of Italy, also receiving widespread acclaim. In December 2024, the original Italian musical ‘Casanova – The Lover of Venice’ will come to China for the first time, and as the first Italian musical to grace the stage of the Shanghai Cultural Plaza, it will meet the audience in Shanghai. The show will be open from December 20th to 25th, subject to the actual performance schedule.
