Kulum, after a failed overseas adventure, returns to his hometown in search of a sense of accomplishment. However, he finds everyone packing up and preparing to leave. This reflects a large-scale global population migration on a local level, with Levin’s text showcasing the anxieties and movements happening on a macro scale.
In this work, subtitled ‘A Comedy with Eight Funerals’, journeys often lead to ‘the other side’. Despite the one-way ticket, the desire for the journey has not diminished. The question arises: is life really elsewhere? Perhaps, focusing on building the community where we are is a better and smarter choice. Is it time to maintain a romantic posture or to work for the common good of the grassroots?
