Noumena was formed in Kotka, Finland in 1998. Their name – Noumena is taken from an important philosophical concept definition in Kant’s ‘Critique of Pure Reason’. After many years of formation, the band released their debut album ‘Pride / Fall’ in 2002 on Catharsis Records and received extraordinary influence. After being favored by the famous record company Spikefarm Records (which has famous bands like Nightwish, Children of Bodom, and Sonata Arctica), the second album ‘Absence’ was released to great acclaim.

In 2006, the two records ‘Anatomy of Life’ and EP ‘Triumph and Loss’ released under Spikefarm Records caused quite a stir in the music scene. With Noumena’s introverted musical temperament and beautiful melody, the band showed everyone their unique style in the melodic metal genre. Their thought-provoking lyrics also touch the hearts of fans. However, after the release of these two records, they fell silent. This led to Noumena experiencing a long seven-year dormancy period after initially achieving success. In 2009 during this period, female vocalist Suvi Uura joined Noumena. Her addition also indicated that Noumena’s new musical image was about to arrive.

In 2013, Noumena returned after a seven-year dormancy. At this time, it was the band’s 15th anniversary. They would present their best album to death metal fans all over the world. In April of the same year, the most important album in Noumena’s musical journey, ‘Death Walks with Me’, was released as a 15th anniversary commemoration under the band’s own operation. This album, as the band’s major comeback, showed everyone their most talented creation in this musical genre.

Noumena, which is about to celebrate its 20-year journey, released the album ‘Myrry Hubbub’ (in ancient Finnish) on April 8, 2017. This album is a complete continuation of ‘Death Walks with Me’ musically. While maintaining the melodic metal characteristics of the 1990s style, the melancholic Finnish mollie tune serves as the melodic feature and becomes the melodic base of this album’s music, highlighting the band’s new attempt in melody creation. In order to create a well-produced album, ‘Myrry Hubbub’ is fully produced by the famous metal music producer Dan Swano (the main creator of Edge of Sanity and the producer of Opeth). Their cooperation not only gives the album outstanding sound effects but also highlights the music characteristics of this album that are different from the past. From a thriving optimistic attitude to a firm and desolate mood, the singing of female singer Suvi Uura skillfully balances the roaring of male lead singer Antti Haapanen among the constantly repeated melodies, improvisational passages, and the emotions expressed by the lyrics. Through the desolate musical emotions, a contradictory picture full of loneliness and despair in the north is depicted.
