In recent years, the Wangde Parish District has developed into a base for Macao’s cultural and creative industries. The buildings in the area are mainly yellow, and the Art Bamboo Garden is located in this area, which is full of cultural atmosphere. Yizhuyuan, formerly known as the House of Mercy Hall, consists of two yellow Portuguese-style buildings with a history of a hundred years. There is a small courtyard in front of it and two old camphor trees standing in it. The environment is quiet and elegant. The House of Mercy House housed poor people and refugees during the Japanese invasion of China during World War II. It was once a “home for the poor.” It is also said that this place was once a nursing home, and most of the residents were mothers-in-law, hence the name Mother-in-Law House. There is an exhibition space in the Art Bamboo Garden, where art and original product design exhibitions are held from time to time, as well as lectures and cultural and art courses to promote the development of local culture, art and creative industries in Macao. There is also a Portuguese restaurant here, which is full of atmosphere.
