The Zhongtai World Museum houses an extensive collection of Buddhist historical artifacts. The exhibition is centered around three main categories: ‘Script, Image, and Scripture’, conveying the three main themes of ‘Scripture as the Vehicle of Dao, Image as the Impression of Mind, and Scripture as the Transmission of Dharma’.

‘Image as the Impression of Mind’ focuses on the museum’s Buddhist artifacts, statues, and stele statues, presenting the religious spirit, meaning, and artistic forms of Buddhist culture.

‘Scripture as the Transmission of Dharma’ features rubbings of stone scriptures and Buddhist scriptures from various dynasties, as well as the Classic of Filial Piety, illustrating the cultural heritage and the significance of carving scriptures.

The architectural complex of the Zhongtai World Museum employs the technique of ‘Chinese Style with Western Construction’, showcasing the beauty of Chinese architecture. The exterior resembles the Tang Dynasty’s Chang’an City, symbolizing the ‘Strictly Guarded Dharma City’ in Buddhism, a fortified city for the protection of Buddhist and historical artifacts. The architectural features such as the hip-and-gable roof and the imagery of ancient city walls represent the convergence of tradition and modernity, East and West, Buddhism and Chinese culture.

The Wood Carving Branch (formerly Zhongtai Mountain Museum) is located about 800 meters from the main museum, situated in the northeast corner of the Zhongtai Chan Monastery complex, and is renovated from the original site of the Zhongtai Mountain Museum. It displays a collection of wood carvings of Buddhist statues from various dynasties, with the statues from the Liao and Jin periods being particularly exquisite and rare.

Opening hours are all year round, Tuesday to Sunday, 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
