Xuzhou, the birthplace of Emperor Gaozu of Han, Liu Bang, is the cradle of the Two Han cultures. Over the four hundred years of the Two Han dynasties, Xuzhou was home to thirteen Chu kings and five Pengcheng kings, with a total of eighteen royal tombs, collectively known as the ‘Xuzhou Han Dynasty Eighteen Tombs’. This is not all; during the Eastern Han period, an additional Xiapi kingdom was enfeoffed within the current administrative region of Xuzhou, with four successive Xiapi kings. The royal tombs in the Han tombs of Xuzhou constitute one of the ‘three wonders’ of the Two Han cultures in Xuzhou. In terms of cultural relics value, uniqueness, and universal value recognition, the Han Dynasty Chu Tombs in Xuzhou are fully qualified to apply for World Cultural Heritage status.
In order to further enhance the international reputation and influence of Xuzhou’s Han culture, our city has recently launched a World Cultural Heritage application activity, with the ‘Xuzhou Han Chu Tombs’ preliminarily set as the World Heritage application project. The opening hours and specific business status are subject to the day’s opening conditions.
