Dai’s Residence is located by Zhenfeng Bridge on West Zhongshi Street. It consists of three independent buildings closely connected along the street. It was a commercial and residential building constructed by brothers Dai Zhijie, Dai Zhiren, and Dai Zhizuo from Zhejiang Province when they did business here. The three residences are independently built but closely connected to form a whole. There are more than 60 rooms of various sizes, creating a water-town architectural pattern of a front shop with a workshop and a deep courtyard. The east Dai’s residence belongs to the eldest brother Dai Zhijie. It is now Dachengtang traditional Chinese medicine store. The middle Dai’s residence belongs to the second son Dai Zhiren. Before liberation, it was Ren’s clothing store. Now it is the folk inn ‘People of Zhenfeng’. The west Dai’s residence belongs to the youngest son Dai Zhizuo. Before liberation, it was Dai Yongmao fabric store. Now it is the scenic spot ‘Treasure-gathering Pavilion’, which contains chess exhibitions and picture exhibitions on the protection and development process of Zhouzhuang Ancient Town.
