Taizhou Prefecture City Wall, also known as the ‘Great Wall of Jiangnan’, was initially constructed during the Eastern Jin Dynasty, expanded during the Tang Dynasty, shaped during the Song Dynasty, and perfected during the Ming and Qing Dynasties. It serves both military and flood control functions. The wall, which is 4730 meters long, is rare in the country for its unique construction, standardized design, and well-preserved condition.

In 2001, it was designated as a National Key Cultural Protection Unit, and in 2012, it was included in the Tentative List for World Cultural Heritage in China. Luo Zhewen, the former honorary president of the Great Wall Society and the head of the Expert Group on Ancient Chinese Architecture, praised it as a ‘model’ and ‘blueprint’ for the Ming Great Wall in the north. It is open all year round from 07:00 to 17:00, with extended hours in the summer from 07:00 to 17:30; in the winter, the hours are from 07:00 to 17:00.
