The inaugural exhibition at Chi She’s brand-new space in Shanghai, titled ‘The Alchemist’, is a group exhibition showcasing the works of nine contemporary female artists: Alia Ahmad, Pam Evelyn, Jadé Fadojutimi, Sophia Loeb, Emma McIntyre, Ilana Savdie, Marina Perez Simão, Daisy Parris, and Anh Trần. These artists challenge traditional narrative methods through diverse mediums and styles, presenting a new narrative perspective that transcends literal expression.
The exhibition’s title is inspired by Paulo Coelho’s book ‘The Alchemist’, which tells the transformative journey of a shepherd boy named Santiago in pursuit of his ‘Personal Legend’ – the mission and destiny of one’s life. Pursuing one’s Personal Legend is considered an essential task in life as it encourages people to live authentically, follow their dreams, and imbue life with deep satisfaction and meaning. While traditional alchemy aims to turn metals into gold, seeking the ‘Philosopher’s Stone’, the alchemy of art lies in transforming ordinary raw materials into profound and transformative art pieces. ‘The Alchemist’ exhibition celebrates the transformative power of abstract art and how artists innovatively materialize intangible emotions and thoughts into visible works. The exhibition is open from 11/7 to 12/17, with specific business hours subject to daily opening conditions.Shanghai: The Alchemist – The First Exhibition at Chi She’s New Space
