Yu Weng Island Lighthouse, also known as Xiyu Lighthouse, is a second-class historical site in Penghu. Originally built in 1778 by the Penghu Magistrate and the Taiwan Prefect, it has undergone multiple renovations over the 170 years since 1824 to achieve its current appearance of a white-painted round iron column. The entrance to the lighthouse features a triangular lintel with the English inscription ‘DAVID M. HENDERSON 1874’, which is the signature of the lighthouse designer. In the courtyard, there are three well-preserved stone tablets: the ‘Inscription on the Construction of Xiyu Tower and Lighthouse’ from 1778, the ‘Inscription on the Completion of the Repair of Xiyu Tower and Lighthouse’ from 1779, and the ‘Xiyu Tower and Lighthouse Inscription’ from 1828. The lighthouse is open year-round from Tuesday to Sunday, 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM.
