Yongzhen Temple, located beside the Tai 2 Qianbin Highway in Yongzhen Village, Zhuangwei Township, Yilan County, has undergone several renovations and expansions over the past two hundred years, making it a precious historical site well-preserved in Yilan County. It was originally constructed in the ninth year of the Qianlong Emperor’s reign in the Qing Dynasty (1744) by pioneers Chen Zhenmin and Chen Fulao, and was reconstructed in 1979. The name ‘Yongzhen’ originates from the wish for the patron saint of Zhangzhou, the ‘King of Kaizhuang’, to ‘forever protect the towns and villages’. With a history of over two hundred years, it is a well-known cultural heritage site in Yilan County. Every year on the fifteenth day of the second lunar month, which is the birthday of the King of Kaizhuang, Yongzhen Temple holds a grand celebration and sacrificial ceremony.
