Tianping Villa is located at the southeastern foot of Tianping Mountain, 8.5 kilometers west of the city. It was designated as a cultural relics protection unit in Suzhou in 1982 and in Jiangsu Province in 1995.

The villa mainly consists of five parts: Zhubo Temple, Laiyan Pavilion, Fan Shengyuan Temple, Gaoyi Garden, and Baiyun Ancient Temple. It also includes ancillary structures such as the ‘Gaoyi Garden’ stone archway, Jie Jia Pavilion, and Imperial Stele Pavilion, as well as scenic spots like Shi Jing Pond, Wan Zhuan Bridge, and the ancient maple forest, covering a total area of about 53,000 square meters.

Tianping Villa was built by Fan Yunlin, the 17th descendant of Fan Zhongyan. During the Wanli era of the Ming Dynasty, Fan Yunlin resigned from his position as a counselor in Fujian and returned to his hometown, Suzhou, to build the villa next to the ancestral graves of Tianping Mountain. He constructed pavilions against the mountain, connected by long corridors,引泉为沼,通以石梁, creating a brilliant landscape of mountain pavilions and water pavilions. The villa is open all year round from 08:00 to 17:00.
