The ‘Tree-Born Bridge’ is located in Rongli Neighborhood Committee, Ronggui Sub-district Office, Shunde District, Foshan City, Guangdong Province. It is a unique small bridge formed by the aerial roots of three banyan trees spanning Pengyong River in Rongli. Therefore, the Tree-Born Bridge is also called Pengyong Bridge. It was formed between the Longqing and Wanli periods of the Ming Dynasty and is a famous scenic spot. The entire bridge is about 2 meters wide and more than 6 meters long. What’s more interesting is that while the villagers used the roots of the banyan trees as the bridge, they also led two banyan roots as bridge railings, one on each side. Now the bridge railing on the west side of the bridge is gone. Only the one on the east side remains. It is about 50 centimeters high from the bridge deck. After passing through the circular hole of the stone pillar at the opposite bridgehead, it directly plunges into the ground. The thickest part of this bridge railing has a diameter of 60 millimeters. Local residents usually like to sit on it to enjoy the cool and chat. However, cars and motorcycles are not allowed on the bridge because it will damage the Tree-Born Bridge. On the southeast side of the tree, there is also a ‘leafless well’. This well is narrow and deep, clear and bright. It is said that when leaves on the tree fall into the well, they disappear without a trace in a short time. The Tree-Born Bridge is a unique bridge caused by both artificial and natural factors. It is a miracle worthy of protection. Open all year round and all day long.
