Shuyuan Spring, also known as ‘Dongliu Spring’, is located in Shuyuan Village at the foot of Tianchi Mountain to the east of Hongfan Pool. It is a famous spring with a relatively large flow among all the springs in Hongfan. The spring water gushes out from numerous small springs at the bottom of the pool and then spurts out from the stone-carved dragon mouth on the south wall of the pool. After that, it follows the brook, encircles the village and households, moistens the woods and finally flows into Langxi River. Dongliu Spring has clear water quality and flows all year round. There is a small village beside Shuyuan Spring. Surrounded by mountain springs, the environment is quiet and secluded. It is warm in winter and cool in summer. The village with waterways and small bridges and flowing water has long been known as ‘Little Spring City’. It is said that in ancient times, the buildings in the village were unique. There were streams in the kitchen. Dishes were placed on wooden trays and automatically floated to the guest rooms. The removed bowls and dishes could be placed on trays and floated back to the kitchen through another channel. On the stone wall to the north of the spring, there are four very precious stone-carved Buddha statues of the Tang Dynasty, which are as tall as a person. According to the locals, these are the incarnations of four eminent monks who founded Hongfu Temple. They renovated the spring pool and built river channels to benefit the villagers. After passing away, the villagers made statues to commemorate them.
