Xiushan Island Scenic Area is located in the eastern part of Dai Mountain Island, centered around Xiushan Island and composed of 35 islands of varying sizes, making it an integral part of the Dai Mountain Scenic Area. Legend has it that Xiushan Island is one of the three fairy mountains at sea, known as ‘Fangzhang Island’, and it is often hailed as the ‘Shangri-La of the Sea’. The main attractions include the Mud Sliding Theme Park, Lanxiu Culture Museum, Xiushan Beach Cluster, Jiuzi Buddha Islet, Seaside Bathing Area, Changshou Zen Temple, Li Family Ancestral Hall, Li’s Five Major Houses, and Lion Rock, among others.

Xiushan Island Mud Sliding Theme Park is situated at the northwest end of Xiushan Island, facing thousands of acres of gentle mudflats and backed by a provincial wetland nature reserve. The park is divided into three activity functional areas: large, medium, and small, mainly conducting tourism projects with ‘mud’ as the thematic feature. It offers a variety of activities such as windsurfing mud sliding, barrel mud sliding, mud competitions, modern mud slimming, mud climbing, mud bathing, mud therapy, and mud fishing, which are rich, interesting, and thrilling.

The Lanxiu Culture Museum is located in Beipu, Xiushan Township, Dai County. Its predecessor was the ‘Tianqu Garden’ root carving and bonsai exhibition art museum, which was renovated from an old residential compound dating back to the Ming and Qing dynasties. It is a traditional quadrangular compound with a wooden and earthen structure, exuding an antique charm. The museum houses over 200 pieces, including calligraphy and paintings by celebrities such as Xu Zhikang, Yang Jianwei, and Ni Zhuqing, as well as furniture, bonsai, and root carvings from the Ming and Qing dynasties, making it a true reflection of the local customs, history, and changes of Xiushan.

The Xiushan Beach Cluster is located in the eastern part of the scenic area, consisting of three beaches connected end-to-end, forming a crescent shape with a gentle slope. The waters in this area are calm, with numerous reefs and abundant marine algae. A variety of fish, crabs, and shellfish, such as swimming crabs, copper basin fish, and tiger head fish, live and inhabit between the reefs and the sea in this area. During the transition from summer to autumn, schools of tiger head fish and other fish come to the beach and reefs to spawn. Tourists can catch them by hand and then barbecue them themselves, enjoying an endless amount of fun.

Changshou Zen Temple is a large-scale religious site on Xiushan Island, well-known in the eastern Zhejiang area. Near the entrance of the scenic area, amidst the green mountains, a group of simple buildings with green tiles and yellow walls is the ‘Changshou Ancient Temple’. The temple is not large, covering an area of about 3,000 square meters, arranged in three parallel sections, with the central axis featuring three halls in succession. The front hall is the Hall of the Heavenly Kings, and the main hall is the Mahavira Hall, which, like other temples, has the main Buddha Shakyamuni, with Amitabha Buddha and the Medicine Buddha on the left and right, all in standing postures. Behind the hall are three stupas, made of Wenling crystal stone, containing the relics of three generations of masters from Changshou Temple. The stupas are not tall, with a round body and a pointed top, exquisite and elegant, appearing spiritual and solemn under the cover of green mountains and trees.
