Taogong Island Scenic Area was the home of Tao Zhugong, the Chinese merchant ancestor and God of Wealth, Fan Li, and Xishi, the Chinese goddess of love and the Eastern Venus, 2,500 years ago. Fan Li and Xishi are well-known and beloved figures in Ningbo’s history, embodying the excellent virtues of the Chinese nation. They represent career, love, wealth, and wisdom, and symbolize happiness, beauty, health, and safety. Dongqian Lake and Taogong Island are named after Taogong, making the island a place of auspicious romance in Ningbo.
