The National Peking Opera Theatre is a theatre directly under the Ministry of Culture. Its predecessor was the Yan’an Peking Opera Research Institute established in 1942 under the care of the Party Central Committee. After the founding of the People’s Republic of China, it was reorganized into the Peking Opera Research Institute and the Chinese Opera Research Institute under the Bureau of Opera Reform of the Ministry of Culture.


There are the first, second, and third Peking Opera troupes. In January 1955, the National Peking Opera Theatre was established. The Peking Opera master Mei Lanfang served as the first dean. Changchun Garden is located on the 8th floor of the National Peking Opera Theatre. It is the rehearsal venue for various troupes at ordinary times. Sometimes there will be open rehearsals partially open to the public.


Opening hours: 09:00 – 17:00 all year round.
