The Wulongtan Scenic Area is located in the southwest of Ningbo urban area. It is not far from the city but one can enjoy beautiful mountain scenery. As the name suggests, the major attraction in the scenic area is the five pools of water, accompanied by the verdant mountains around. It is refreshing and pleasant in summer and autumn. The mountains are neither too high nor too low, just suitable for taking a stroll. The currently developed Longtan Waterfall Sightseeing Area shows the five well Longtan, mountain streams and waterfalls, and ancient dragon worship altars and other landscapes. During the tour, you can walk back and forth on foot throughout, or take the sightseeing bus in the scenic area to the tourist square near Sanjing Longtan at the halfway up the mountain. Starting from here and walking up the mountain on foot is relatively easier. If you walk here on foot throughout, it takes about 1 hour to see the scenery and walk. There is a statue of a woman and four children on the square at the entrance of the scenic area, telling the legend about the origin of Wulongtan. Following the signs of the walking trail and walking deep into the valley, after walking for about 40 minutes, you can see a huge red ‘dragon’ character carved on the mountain rock in the distance. The large waterfall in front of the carving pours down, called ‘Baizhang Waterfall’. Here, not far ahead is the Wulong Shentang. At this point, you can faintly hear the sound of the pool water and stream ahead. In the later part of the tour, walking up the mountain along the walking trail, you can visit the five well Longtan in sequence. The road is not very flat but not too difficult to walk either. In order, they are Fuzetan, Zhaozetan, Runzetan, Baitanlong, and Chitanlong. Although they are all combinations of waterfalls and pools, they have different shapes. The pool water is sometimes green and sometimes blue. Many people think the fourth well is charming, and the fifth well is imposing. The water flow of the fifth well does not flow down directly like other waterfalls. Instead, it surges left and right in the cavity between two huge rocks and finally falls into the pool. Between the fourth and fifth well Longtan, there is a bamboo corridor teahouse. When tired, you can drink tea and take a rest here. In summer, you can often see tourists playing with water and washing their faces by the stream, which is very cool. Walking a little further up from the fifth well to the source of the pool water, there is a dragon worship altar, which is a place where local people pray for good weather. Although it is newly built, the towering dragon totem pole also has some imposing manner. There is an incense burner in front of the altar, and tourists can also pray for blessings here. Most people will turn back and go down the mountain at the dragon worship altar. If you walk up the mountain, it is recommended to return to the sightseeing bus station and take the bus out of the scenic area, saving time and effort and not having to walk the same way back.
