Climbing the Wanshou Pavilion in the park, one can overlook the entire city of Beijing. Looking south, one can see the panoramic view of the Forbidden City. Looking north, one can see the Bell and Drum Towers on the central axis. Looking west, there is the White Pagoda in Beihai. Looking southeast, one can see Zhongnanhai. In front of the pavilion, there is a circular copper landmark with ‘Center Point of Beijing City’ written on it.
Inside the Wanchun Pavilion, the Vairocana Buddha is enshrined. The Vairocana Buddha is also known as the Mahavairocana Buddha and is the Dharmakaya of Sakyamuni Buddha. The Vairocana Buddha is the head of the five Tathagatas in the Vajradhatu of Esoteric Buddhism and represents the wisdom of the Dharmadhatu nature among the five Tathagatas. The original Buddha statue enshrined in the pavilion was damaged in the 1960s. After being remolded and reinstalled, it was officially opened to the public in 2000.
