Taicang Museum is a comprehensive museum reflecting the local history of Taicang. It was established in 1987 and is the first county (city)-level museum established in Jiangsu Province. The main exhibitions of Taicang Museum are distributed in the former residences of Zhang Pu and Wang Xijue. Zhang Pu’s former residence was built during the Tianqi period of the Ming Dynasty. There are currently three courtyards in succession.

The whole set of buildings has excellent craftsmanship and reasonable layout. The halls correspond to each other and the buildings are connected. It is commonly known as the ‘through-trot horse tower’ and is almost like a ‘maze’. Wang Xijue served as the chief minister in the Wanli period of the Ming Dynasty. His former residence was built during the Wanli period. There is currently one gate tower with a width of five rooms.

The foyer is unique in Jiangsu and Zhejiang provinces. The cultural relics in the collection of Taicang Museum include many categories such as pottery, porcelain, bronze ware, jade ware, coins, calligraphy and painting.
