Nanxun Ancient Town

Nanxun Ancient Town has a long history. Rivers run through the town. Since ancient times, there have been many wealthy people in Nanxun. The buildings are all beautiful manors of wealthy households. Moreover, due to the prevalence of Western style here in the past, Nanxun is also an ancient town combining Chinese and Western styles, noble and elegant. The ancient town is not large in area. If you just take a quick look around, it can be completed in about half a day.

You can also take a boat tour in the town. Generally, a boat can accommodate 8 people. Nine major scenic spots have been developed in the town, mostly the private residences and gardens of the extremely wealthy people in the ancient town. Since the characteristic of Nanxun is that there were many wealthy people and deep mansions in ancient times, and most of the buildings are quiet and beautiful, these nine major scenic spots are also the main landscapes of Nanxun.

Sightseeing route: Visiting Nanxun Ancient Town can start from Xiaolianzhuang. The lotus pond in the garden and many exotic flowers and trees combined with the garden are very elegant and can be viewed and photographed. Next to Xiaolianzhuang is the Jiayetang Library. Now it is both a scenic spot and a library. Entering it is pleasing to the eye. After visiting the two scenic spots, come to the small river.

The two sides of the small river are Nandong Street and Nanxi Street. There are several small bridges connecting the two streets in the middle. You can walk northward along the river. On both sides of the street are several major scenic spots in the scenic area, namely the old residence of Zhang Shiming, Qiu Shuli, Liu’s Ladder House, Guanghui Palace, Silk Industry Guild Hall, etc. There are both manor houses and historical displays of the local silk industry with characteristics.

You can visit them one by one. Baijianlou and the former residence of Zhang Jingjiang are on the other side of the river at the end of Nandong Street. In Baijianlou, you can see the simple ancient town life of local people in the morning and evening every day. It is a paradise for taking pictures. There is also a wonderful cormorant fishing show on the small river in the middle of this street, which is very interesting.

For food and accommodation, there are several handicraft workshops on the street where you can buy local specialty pastries and snacks. After passing the Silk Industry Guild Hall along Nandong Street, on the right is Bianmin Road. There are many snack bars on the road, especially many noodle restaurants. You can taste a bowl of double-sided noodles with Jiangnan characteristics here. If you want to stay overnight in Nanxun, you can choose a characteristic inn near Baijianlou.

On Dongda Street on the south side of Baijianlou, the inn is built by the river, simple and elegant. However, the accommodation price in the ancient town is also a bit higher. If you want cheaper accommodation, you can walk for more than ten minutes to Tai’an Road or Tongxin Road next to the ancient town. There are many hotels and the room prices are also relatively affordable.
