Anguo City was formerly known as Qizhou. It is known as the ‘pharmaceutical capital’ and ‘the world’s pharmaceutical market’. The prosperity of Anguo’s pharmaceutical market originated from the Medicine King Temple. People who participate in the pharmaceutical market always go to pay their respects and worship at the Medicine King Temple. The Medicine King worshipped in the temple is Pi Tong. Xindu in the Western Han Dynasty (now people from Jizhou, Hebei Province) was one of the twenty-eight generals under Liu Xiu, the founding emperor of the Eastern Han Dynasty. He once served as the prefect of Quyang County (now Jinzhou City, Hebei Province). Pi Tong assisted Liu Xiu in conquering the world. He was brave and good at fighting, loyal, and resourceful. He made immortal contributions to the establishment and defense of the Eastern Han Dynasty. He held the position of Taichang Shaofu (equivalent to the prime minister). Pi Tong loved medicine deeply and was highly respected by the military and civilians. After his death, he was buried outside the south gate of Qizhou.
