Laozi Mountain, also known as Dan Mountain, is named after the legendary figure Laozi, who is said to have practiced alchemy here during the Spring and Autumn period. The northern part of the mountain features beaches and small islands with flat terrain, while the southern part consists of low mountains and hills. As early as the Tang, Song, Yuan, and Ming dynasties, Laozi Mountain was a bustling commercial and cultural hub, attracting merchants from the north and south due to its strategic location along the waterway.

Archaeological discoveries in the area include Han Dynasty tombs, Eastern Jin Dynasty tomb bricks, and tombs from the Six Dynasties period. Additionally, precious artifacts such as Northern Song Dynasty lotus petal pattern tiles, high-relief tiger and lion head pattern tiles have been found. Laozi Mountain scenic area boasts over 10 historical sites and landmarks, including the Jellyfish Well and Lower Turtle Mountain, which are imbued with mythological legends that add to their allure.
