The Jiangyin Yangtze River Highway Bridge is an extra-large steel box girder suspension bridge with a span of over one thousand meters in China. It is also a cross-river ‘throat’ project on the national trunk line from Tongjiang to Sanya and the national trunk line from Beijing to Shanghai in the national highway main skeleton. It is the second bridge spanning the north and south of the Yangtze River in Jiangsu Province. The Jiangyin Yangtze River Highway Bridge is located between Shiwei Village in Jingjiang City and Jiangyin City. The total construction mileage of the bridge is 5.176 kilometers, with a total investment of 3.625 billion yuan. The bridge is 3071 meters long, the cable tower is 197 meters high, the diameters of the two main cables are 0.870 meters. The bridge deck is designed according to the six-lane expressway standard, 33.8 meters wide, and the designed driving speed is 100 kilometers per hour. There is also a central separation zone and an emergency stop zone. On both sides of the main bridge’s cross-river section, there is a 1.5-meter-wide sidewalk. There are two towers in the north and south. The south tower is located on the rock foundation on the south bank. The north tower is located in the shallow water area outside the north bank, and the pile foundation is constructed by building an island. The south anchorage is a gravity-type rock-socketed anchorage structure. The north side span is composed of multiple spans of prestressed continuous rigid frames. The north and south approach bridges are prestressed concrete girder bridges, with lengths of 132 meters and 1365 meters respectively. The navigable clearance under the bridge is 50 meters, which can meet the navigation of 50,000-ton ships. The bridge started construction on November 22, 1994 and was completed and opened to traffic on September 28, 1999. Open all year round and open 24 hours a day.
