The Guanyin Spring is located behind the Guanyin Hall in Tiger Hill, Suzhou. The small courtyard where the spring well is located is quiet and elegant. There are three large characters ‘The Third Spring’ engraved on the garden gate. The Third Spring is also known as ‘Lu Yu Well’. According to the ‘Suzhou Prefecture Annals’, Lu Yu once lived in Tiger Hill. After discovering that the spring water in Tiger Hill is clear, translucent, sweet and delicious, he dug a spring well on Tiger Hill, hence the name. Liu Bochu rated this water as the third. Although Tiger Hill is a small mountain, its mountain shape is majestic and strange like a crouching tiger. Its peak is even more like emerging from the sea. The spring water from Tiger Hill Temple, combined with ‘Biluochun’ tea, makes tea-tasting here a special pleasure. No wonder Gu Ying, a famous person in the Yuan Dynasty, praised: ‘After the snow stops, the spring water is green in spring. The moss soaks the stone porcelain and it is green. Why didn’t Lu Hongjian include this in his tea-tasting classic?’ Opening hours: Open from 7:30 to 17:30 all year round. The specific business status is subject to the opening situation on that day.
