Jiangning Prefecture School is located outside the southeast gate of Chaotian Palace in Nanjing, originally the site of the Imperial Academy of the Ming Dynasty. In the ninth year of Shunzhi’s reign (1652), Governor Ma Guozhu of Yingtian Prefecture renovated it and changed it to ‘Jiangning Prefecture School’. Later, Li Hongzhang, Zeng Guofan, and Ma Xinyi successively rebuilt Jiangning Prefecture School, completing the integration of temple and school in the Chinese Confucian temple system, and combined with Chaotian Palace Confucian Temple and Xi Bian Gong Temple to form a larger ancient architectural complex in the Jiangnan region. Although located in the bustling city, it is a quiet deep alley residence. Now it is the Jiangsu Province Kunqu Opera House, which performs Kunqu Opera all year round. The opening time is not open without performances, adjusted according to the performance time, and the specific business status is subject to the opening situation on the day.
