The Guilin Stone House is located within the Linggu Temple scenic area, originally serving as the summer retreat for the Chairman of the Nationalist Government, Lin Sen. Designed by Yang Guangxu and funded by the Guangzhou Municipal Government, it was constructed in 1931 and named for the surrounding osmanthus trees. The building, made of stones from Qinglong Mountain, is divided into two levels: the main house and the basement. The seven rooms of the main house are partitioned into living rooms, dining rooms, and bedrooms, while the basement serves as the kitchen and servants’ quarters. In front of the house, there are 170 stone steps leading down the mountain. During the Anti-Japanese War, the house was destroyed and only half of its framework remains today. Recent research suggests that some stone carvings from the Ming Palace and Ming Xiaoling Mausoleum sites were used as decorations in the construction of the Guilin Stone House, such as stone railings, columns, corner chisels, and stele inscriptions.
