The No. 23 Siheyuan is a typical medium-sized residence of the Siheyuan style. This traditional Chinese courtyard house is located in Beijing and has been designated as a cultural relic protection unit. The entire garden spans an area of 2,500 square meters and is oriented towards the south. The residence is comprised of four courtyards in total.
At the entrance, there is a screen wall, which is a common architectural feature in Siheyuan design. Flanking the steps leading up to the gate, one can find a pair of mounting stones, historically used for assisting riders in mounting and dismounting their horses. The gate itself is situated at the southeast corner of the residence, which is a standard practice in Chinese architecture for feng shui purposes. Upon entering the gate, another screen wall greets visitors, enhancing the privacy and aesthetic appeal of the space.
