Gu Shang Yiyuan archway is located within the traditional cultural street of Jinmen in Tianjin. The archway is adorned with colorful paintings, following the style known as ‘smoke-engraved inkstone and jade grinding’. The inscriptions on the archway read ‘Gu Shang Yiyuan’ (facing north) and ‘Golden Turtle’ (facing south). Tianjin, situated at the confluence of nine rivers, has been historically rich in water resources and dense water networks.
It is also known by the names ‘Jin Gu’, ‘Zhi Gu’, and ‘Gu Shang’. Within the area of Tianjin Guard, there are ‘seventy-two Gu’s’. ‘Gu Shang Yiyuan’ signifies the cradle of Tianjin’s culture. The term ‘Gold’ represents precious metal and valuable items, while ‘Turtle’ refers to a large fish that transforms into a ‘Golden Turtle’ after leaping over the Dragon’s Gate, symbolizing a dragon. ‘Golden Turtle’ is a metaphor for the gathering of fine things. The archway is open all year round, accessible 24/7, with specific business hours subject to daily opening conditions.Gu Shang Yiyuan
