Cangzhou Old City

Cangzhou Old City is located in Jiu-zhou Town, Cangxian County, 20 kilometers east of Cangzhou City. The area within the city is about 4.3 million square meters. The old city wall is about 40 meters wide, and the measured perimeter is 7,787 meters. It was built in the fifth year of Emperor Gaozu of the Western Han Dynasty (202 BC), which is Fuyang County City. The old city wall is now incomplete. Only on the west and south sides are there five sections of broken walls.

In the old city, there are ancient architectural sites such as the Iron Lion, the Iron Coin Treasury (the unearthed coins all have inscriptions such as Chongning Tongbao, Daguan Tongbao, Zhenghe Tongbao, and Xuanhe Tongbao), iron furnaces, and Kaiyuan Temple. Moreover, there are rich cultural relics underground. The old city of Jiu-zhou was once named Lion City and Crouching Bull City.
