Located in the southern part of Shanghai city, near the South Railway Station and South Bus Station, the Shanghai Botanical Garden is not far from the city center. With its lush greenery, it attracts many citizens for walks and exercise daily, and anglers gather by the river.

The garden boasts a variety of flowers and plants, allowing visitors to admire the graceful blossoms all year round. Themed flower exhibitions are also held frequently, showcasing rare species, making it an ideal spot for flower appreciation and photography.

The Shanghai Botanical Garden has four entrances, each conveniently located near bus stations. The 4th entrance on the north side is closest to the Line 3 of the rail transit system, while entrances 1 and 2 are on Longwu Road on the east side. Self-driving tourists can park their vehicles at the main parking lot next to entrance 2.

The garden is not overly large, and it can be toured in about two hours. It features three specialized areas: the exhibition greenhouse, bonsai garden, and orchid house. Springtime, especially from March to May, is peak season for flower viewing, with cherry blossoms, peach blossoms, and tulips drawing a large number of visitors.

In summer, visitors can stroll through the cool bamboo garden or admire the lotus flowers; in autumn, visitors can enjoy chrysanthemums or visit the maple garden with its red maples and the magnolia garden with yellow tulip trees, as well as the rose garden with hawthorn, photinia, and begonia plants; in winter, the exhibition greenhouse displays various unique tropical plants.

Apart from flower viewing, visitors can rent bicycles to ride within the garden or take a boat ride on the river. There is also a children’s playground near the 4th entrance, where children can enjoy rides like the small train, merry-go-round, and bumper cars. After visiting the botanical garden, one can visit the famous Longhua Temple, conveniently accessible by taking the transportation vehicle from the bus stop outside entrance 2.

The garden is open all year round from 07:00 to 17:00. Service facilities include mobile phone charging, stroller rental (free lending with a deposit of 200 yuan), umbrella rental (free lending with a deposit of 100 yuan), and wheelchair rental (free lending with a deposit of 300 yuan), all located at the visitor service center at entrance 1. There is also a nursing room and barrier-free access, with disabled vehicles entering and exiting through entrance 1.
