**History:**
The Hua Shi Ancient Stockade was initially built in the second year of the Chunyou era of the Song Dynasty (1242), under the supervision of Yu Jie, the then Sichuan Military Commissioner. He ordered the construction of numerous military stockades across the province to resist the invasion of the Yuan army, leading to the establishment of the ‘Old Stockade,’ also known as the ‘Front Stockade.’ The stockade was named ‘Hua Shi Stockade’ due to the large area of steep, smooth stones in front of the stockade.
In the second year of the Jiaqing era (1797), Guo Rong, the county magistrate of Liangshan, ordered more than 40,000 people in the county to relocate into 130 key stockades to avoid chaos and war, resulting in the expansion of the ‘Rear Stockade’ behind the stockade.
**Preservation:**
Later, in the late 1950s, most of the houses on Hua Shi Stockade were damaged, and a large number of ancient trees on the stockade were cut down, leading to severe destruction of the natural scenery.
