Yong’an Residence of the Huang family, completed around 1915, has a history of over ninety years. It is a traditional Sanhe courtyard with a single entrance and three bays, surrounded by four protective wings. The main house boasts exquisite brickwork, paper-cut clay sculptures, colored paintings, and stone carvings. The stone windows and water wheel blocks are adorned with clay sculptures and plaques depicting ‘Zen Xian Yielding Position’, ‘Da Shun Elephant Plowing’, and ‘ Auspicious Clouds’.
A distinctive feature of Yong’an Residence is that each window has a protruding stone block about twenty centimeters long, with a hole above it, designed to provide shade and prevent rainwater from entering, known as ‘Rabbit’s Ears’. Additionally, a comprehensive defense system is one of the characteristics of Yong’an Residence, including watchtowers, gun ports, and walls.
