Honglu Mountain, also known as Nanshijiao Mountain, is located in the mountainous area behind Nanshijiao in Zhonghe District, New Taipei City, standing at an elevation of 302 meters. The mountain is home to numerous temples, making it a popular pilgrimage site for believers.
Honglu Mountain boasts beautiful scenery, attracting many hikers and nature enthusiasts. The mountain range extends to the eastern end, with a flat and open summit offering excellent views. Particularly, it provides a panoramic view of the Taipei Basin, Dahan and Xindian rivers, a distant view of the Guanyin and Datun volcanic groups, and the Tamsui estuary. Honglu Mountain is also a renowned spot for night views in the greater Taipei area.
There are two entrances to Honglu Mountain. The first entrance is a set of stairs next to the parking lot, with over a hundred steps leading to Nanshan Fude Palace. The second entrance is a short walk along the road from the parking lot. However, due to limited parking space at the summit, most vehicles are parked halfway up the mountain.
Starting from Xingnan Road, the first site encountered is the Wenchang Dijun Temple, a center for praying for academic and career success. Behind the temple, a stone staircase leads to Nanshan Guanyin Temple, which primarily worships Guanyin Bodhisattva and also honors Manjushri, Samantabhadra, and Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva. It is a common resting place for hikers.
Continuing to walk upwards, one reaches Jingnangong Xiangong Temple. The temple’s appearance is resplendent with gold, featuring a massive 109-foot statue of the Earth God, which serves as a landmark of Honglu Mountain. Climbing the stone steps next to the statue leads to Nanshan Fude Palace.
