Beiguan originally served as a checkpoint during the Qing Dynasty. During the Jiaqing era, due to the geographical features of the area, a military checkpoint was established to prevent bandits from entering Yilan.

Inside the park, there stand two ancient cannons, believed to be relics from the Jiaqing period of the Qing Dynasty.

The park features natural rock formations such as monoliths, tofu rocks, and small sea capes, which have been shaped by millions of years of erosion, standing as a unique spectacle on the east coast. Amidst the towering rocks and mountainous terrain, steps, trails, and sea-view pavilions are set up, showcasing the wonders of the seaside at every turn.

From the sea-view platform, one can gaze south to Turtle Island and the Lanyang Plain, while up close, the waves crash against the shore with a myriad of expressions. The ‘Beiguan Sea Tide,’ one of the Eight Sights of Lanyang, refers to this very location.

The Sea-View Pavilion offers a clear view of Turtle Island, Wai’ao, and other maritime scenes, as well as a panoramic view of the Beiguan area. Standing on the pavilion, one can enjoy the distant beauty of Turtle Islet and the nearby crashing waves.

Especially during high tide or sunrise, it is an excellent time to visit Beiguan. The two ancient cannons cast during the Jiaqing period stand facing the sea, with over 160 years of history, adding an antique charm to the old cannon bodies and a touch of nostalgia to Beiguan.

The park is open all year round, with full-day access.
