Kaiyuan Temple, also known as ‘Kaiyuan Zhen Guo Chan Temple’, is named after the reign title ‘Kaiyuan’ during the prosperous era of Emperor Xuanzong of Tang Dynasty. The temple was originally built in the 26th year of the Kaiyuan era (AD 738) and has a history of over 1200 years. From its inception, Kaiyuan Temple in Chaozhou held a significant position in the region. Through continuous restorations during the Song, Yuan, Ming, and Qing dynasties, the temple still retains the main layout from the Tang Dynasty and has integrated architectural arts from various dynasties.
The temple’s glazed tiles, colorful ridges, and red walls are truly magnificent. Walking through, one is surrounded by the fragrance of incense, with a constant stream of devotees coming to worship and pray. In addition to the Kaiyuan Temple in the ancient city area of Chaozhou, there is a newly built Kaiyuan Temple Thai Buddha Hall on the east side of the Hanjiang Bridge. Although the temple is not large, it is rich in Thai style. Tourists heading to Han Wengong’s Memorial Hall can visit it on their way. The temple is open all year round from 07:00 to 12:00 and 13:00 to 17:00.Kaiyuan Temple
