East Gate of Hengchun Ancient City

The ancient name of Hengchun is ‘Langqiao’. After the Qing Dynasty, it was renamed Hengchun because of its pleasant climate and spring-like seasons all year round. The Hengchun Ancient City is a very well-preserved city gate historical site in Taiwan. Resisting foreign enemies is the reason for building the ancient city. Approved by Shen Baozhen of the Qing Dynasty for construction, it began to be built in 1875 AD (the first year of Guangxu in the Qing Dynasty) and was completed after five years.

It has a history of more than 130 years. The city wall of the Hengchun Ancient City has four city gates in the east, south, west, and north. Each city gate is equipped with fortresses at a high position. The inner and outer door openings are traditional semicircular arches with city towers on them, which are very antique. The Hengchun Ancient City located in the center of the town is well-preserved and has been listed as a second-class historical site in Taiwan.

The four city gates with strong ancient charm just form a suitable tourist circle. Tourists can start from the west gate and walk to the Tianhou Palace, Monkey Cave Mountain, and the south gate, and then turn to the east gate. You can climb up and overlook the panoramic view of Hengchun Town. The famous filming location of ‘Sea View No. 7’, the white house, is also here, but there is an entrance fee.

Kenting Tropical Botanical Garden, forest amusement park, Maobitou seaside, Eluanbi seaside, Kenting seaside bath, etc. are all within the scope of Hengchun Town. The specific business hours and opening status are subject to the opening situation on the day.
