Chao Hai Palace, one of the ‘Five Sea Temples’ in Leizhou, is a remarkable architectural gem. Located in Lan Nan Village, Fu Cheng Town, Leizhou City, Zhanjiang City, it was first constructed during the Ming Dynasty. The existing structure maintains the layout of a four-deep, three-road compound from the Qing Dynasty’s Tongzhi period.

The palace’s design is distinctive and its craftsmanship exquisite. At the forefront, visitors are greeted by three-sided bluestone railings and a navigation light pole that soars over 10 meters high. The wood carvings are particularly impressive, with lifelike depictions of flowers, birds, insects, and fish adorning the eaves, as if they could come to life at any moment. The ridge head features antique patterns that are further enhanced with motifs of wheat, peonies, and bats, adding a lively and dynamic touch to the overall aesthetic.
