Donghai Island

Donghai Island is a vast and flat island with an area of 286 square kilometers, ranking fifth in the country. The population on the island is approximately 150,000, traditionally relying on fishing and cultivating crops such as cassava, sweet potatoes, sugarcane, and peanuts. In recent years, the cultivation of vegetables for northern transportation and the breeding of lobsters, abalones, prawns, crabs, oysters, and other valuable fish species have gradually become the main industries. Fruits on Donghai Island include bananas, mangoes, and jackfruits, with ‘Donghai Muskmelon’ being a local specialty, shorter than regular muskmelons, resembling apples, hence also known as ‘apple melon,’ sweet and crispy. ‘Donghai Dragon Dance’ is a unique folk art here, consisting of people forming a long dragon. Open all year round from 07:30 to 19:00, with specific business status subject to the day’s opening conditions.
