The thousand-year-old ancient town of Datong is a shining pearl inlaid on the 800-li Anhui section of the Yangtze River. As the core area of the southern urban area of Tongling, it is located at the intersection of the Yangtze River and Qingtong River. Datong was formerly known as Lanxi. It guards Jiuhua Mountain, overlooks Huangshan Mountain, is adjacent to the Yangtze River and close to Tongling. In the Tang Dynasty, a water post was set up. In 975 AD (the eighth year of Kai Bao period of the Song Dynasty), it was established as a town. The town has a history of more than a thousand years. It is a famous important town in the south of the Yangtze River at home and abroad. It is known as one of Anhui’s “four major commercial ports” together with Anqing, Wuhu and Bengbu.
