We indulged in the petty bourgeoisie charm of gourmet food at a hot pot restaurant that has been highly recommended and ranks at the top in Shanghai. As a die-hard fan of Deng Lun’s hot pot, I made a special trip with my good friends to pay homage to this culinary gem.

Exiting Dashijie Station on Metro Line 8 from Exit 6 and walking a short distance, we arrived at our destination. The restaurant, Huoshe Hot Pot (People’s Square Store), is situated on the ground floor along the street at Xinshang Plaza, 99 Huaihai East Road. The location is conveniently accessible, just a 390-meter walk from the station.

The restaurant’s business hours are from 11:00 to 15:00 and then from 16:30 until 02:00 the next day, making it a perfect spot for a midday treat or a late-night feast.

Upon entering, we were captivated by the prosperous Chinese style decor that instantly gave us the urge to don Hanfu and step back in time. The ambiance was set with big red lanterns, warm-toned lighting, bright red maple trees, and gray tiles, creating a unique atmosphere for enjoying a hot pot meal in an ancient setting.

As soon as we were seated, the waiter promptly served us black wolfberry tea and presented us with a six-compartment seasoning tray. He informed us that checking in and collecting the store’s name would earn us a free serving of ice powder.

I decided to order a drink in the same style as Deng Lun’s, which was a #Kiwi Fruit# beverage. The waiter explained that it was an iced drink crafted with New Zealand Zespri kiwi fruit, married with a Yanran jasmine tea base and topped with a rich, mellow cheese milk cap. It was refreshingly delightful and the perfect accompaniment to our hot pot meal.

My friend opted for the #Osmanthus Oolong#, adding another layer of sophistication to our dining experience.The base material is Taiwan, China osmanthus oolong. Black and white evaporated milk is added, and osmanthus fragments are sprinkled on top. It has a strong osmanthus fragrance when drunk. No wonder it is Deng Lun’s favorite flavor.

On one side is chili peppers of three different varieties from Sichuan, Chongqing and Henan, creating an authentic spicy and fragrant red soup base. On the other side is tomato base. It is prosperous and unforgettable after one taste and has a lasting aftertaste after many tastes.
