Lin Fengmian, a renowned modern painter and art educator, lived in a two-story small building with red bricks for 25 years. This former residence, old and dilapidated, stands square and upright, lacking distinctive lines and colors. Born in 1900 and passing away in 1991, Lin was the founder of the China Academy of Art and one of the pioneers of modern art education in China. He is known as an advocate, pioneer, and important representative figure for the artistic ideal of the ‘combination of Chinese and Western’.
After absorbing the essence of modern painting following Western Impressionism, Lin Fengmian combined this with the artistic style of traditional Chinese ink painting, integrating his personal life experiences into his work. His painting thoughts have profoundly influenced many subsequent generations of painters.
The former residence is open all day, every day, from January 1st to December 31st.
