Bao Sheng Temple in Luzhi is a thousand-year-old ancient temple in Jiangnan. The nine clay sculptures of Arhats, sculpted by Tang Dynasty artists, have been well-preserved despite the vicissitudes of a thousand years. The temple still has over 200 buildings, maintaining the layout of the temple and is known as one of the four major temples in Jiangnan. Existing structures within the temple include the Second Mountain Gate and the Antiquities Museum. Mr. Guo once commented after visiting, “The Arhat sculptures in Bao Sheng Temple reveal the muscles and veins, and despite being constrained by religious themes, they exude an overwhelming sense of reality that compels one to feel a noble beauty.”

To the north of the courtyard stands the Antiquities Museum, built on the original site of the Mahavira Hall, housing the world-renowned “Plaster Wall Arhats.”

To the west of the temple lies the remains of the Tang Dynasty’s famous scholar and poet Lu Guimeng’s hermitage, including the Fighting Duck Pond, Qingfeng Pavilion, and Chuiqiao Bridge.

The temple is open all year round from 08:30 to 17:00.
