Pan Tianshou, in his youth, felt that he had no talent for practical affairs, but believed he could excel in the arts of poetry, calligraphy, painting, and seal carving. He thus delved deeply into these areas. In 1923, at the age of 27, Pan Tianshou was employed at the Shanghai Fine Arts School and participated in the founding of the Shanghai New China Art School, where he cultivated many students. In 1928, he became the head of the Chinese Painting Department at the newly established Hangzhou West Lake Art School. His talents were recognized and appreciated by Wu Changshuo, who was already 80 years old at the time, and Pan Tianshou’s art was also influenced by Wu. Between 1955 and 1965, Pan Tianshou experienced a decade of rich creation and writing, during which he served as the vice chairman of the National Artists Association. A Pan Tianshou Memorial Hall was built with national investment within the China Academy of Art. In memory of Mr. Pan Tianshou, the Pan Tianshou Square and Pan Tianshou Middle School were established in the old city area of Ninghai City. The opening hours are from 1/1 to 12/31, 08:00 to 17:30.
