Bao Guqing’s former residence, also known as the ‘Bao Family Compound’, was constructed in 1920. It was the former residence of Bao Guqing, who served as the Army Chief of the Beiyang Government, Governor of Heilongjiang, and Governor of Jilin, after his resignation in 1922. The residence is located at No. 81 Ping’an Street in the current Hebei District, and it now serves as the Eighth Retirement Home of the Tianjin Garrison Command of the People’s Liberation Army and the North China Office of the Engineering Command Department of the Ministry of Railways of the People’s Republic of China.
The former residence is divided into four parts: the main building, the rear building, the east building, and the south building. The main building is a mixed Western-style brick-concrete two-story building with a basement and局部ly a three-story structure, topped with a multi-slope tile roof. The exterior of the building features blue brick walls with high, elongated windows and round-arch windows. The first and second floors have colonnades, and the third floor on the south side features a large terrace with three pavilions. The eastern pavilion is a traditional Chinese round攒尖 pavilion, the middle one is a Western classical pavilion with a Romanesque roof and simplified Corinthian columns, and the western one is a modern Western-style pavilion. The interior of the building is adorned with wainscoting and wood-carved ceiling panels. Additionally, the courtyard includes rockeries, pavilions, fish ponds, and flower beds. The opening hours and business status are subject to the daily opening conditions.Bao Guqing’s Former Residence
