Baozhen Sai was established in the autumn of the third year of the Xuantong Emperor of the Qing Dynasty (1911 AD). It covers an area of over 26,000 square meters and has a history of 93 years. Built by the local prominent Duan family as a fully enclosed residential complex integrating military defense and daily living to escape the turmoil of war. Constructed against the mountain, it features the architectural style of Southern Fujian’s Tulou with characteristics of Jiangnan’s residential architecture. The houses are exquisitely designed, orderly layered, antique, and distinctive. Baozhen Sai emphasizes the traditional terrain features of pass and stockade architecture, drawing on the strengths of traditional stockade construction, integrating watchtowers, castles, and the architectural style of Tulou in the Southern Fujian region into a fully enclosed defensive system. Praised by Luo Zhewen, the head of the Chinese Ancient Architecture Expert Group, as ‘rarely seen in the country, a unique treasure in Shu.’ Open daily from January 1st to December 31st, 8:30 AM to 6:00 PM.
