Introduction to the Play: Set in a feudal family in old China at the beginning of the 1920s, the story revolves around the ambiguous relationship between the wealthy mine owner Zhou Puyuan’s stepwife, Fan Yi, and the eldest son, Zhou Ping. However, Zhou Ping falls in love with the maid Si Feng, who is also loved by the seventeen-year-old second son, Zhou Chong. It is revealed that Zhou Ping is the illegitimate child of Si Feng’s mother, Lu Shi Ping, and Zhou Puyuan, making Zhou Ping and Si Feng half-siblings.
On a stormy night, when the truth is revealed, Zhou Ping commits suicide, and Si Feng dies from an electric shock.
