The Dagukou Forts Ruins in Tianjin are located at the mouth of the Haihe River, based on the forts constructed during the Ming Dynasty. Within the scenic area, there is a Dagukou Forts Ruins Museum that displays the history of China in the 19th century when it was humiliated by foreign powers; the outdoor ancient forts, cannons, and city walls are spectacular and weathered, available for visitors to explore and take photos.
The scale of the Dagukou Forts Ruins scenic area is not large, and it can be visited on foot. The museum is the main attraction of the scenic area, and visitors should start with the museum before heading to the fort ruins for further exploration and photography. It takes approximately 1-2 hours to visit, and for those interested in history who wish to delve deeper, a guide can be hired at the entrance. The entrance to the scenic area is on the west side, and after purchasing a ticket, the museum can be seen to the left front. The museum building has a unique shape, a radial metal structure with an iron-rust exterior that exudes a sense of history and age. Inside the museum, visitors can begin to explore the display of cultural relics and materials, which is divided into several sections such as the序厅, 京畿海门, 沽口御侮, and 国门沦陷, as well as a 3D cinema and temporary exhibition hall. Through the display of ancient cannons, bells, cannon wheels, and stone tablets, the museum showcases the humiliating history of old China in the 19th century, allowing visitors to understand the bravery and helplessness of the Chinese people in their resistance against foreign enemies. After visiting the museum, walking a few dozen meters to the east from the exit, one can see a tall fort with a large cannon and several smaller ones aimed at the sea on the city walls, a sight of grandeur and history, where visitors can climb up and take photos with the fort.
