Dong Haoran, father of Tung Chee-hwa, the first Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, once resided in a four-story European-style building in Shanghai. This residence, with its striking red brick exterior, is a popular spot for visitors who come to admire its architectural beauty.
After the liberation, the building was repurposed by the Shanghai Shipping Company. The open space surrounding the building was transformed into a fleet area for the company’s operations. Today, the site has been developed further, with a row of restaurants now standing in place. The area remains open to the public all year round, offering full-day access for anyone interested in exploring its history and enjoying its current offerings.
